I have a theory about Chester Gilettes plan to kill Grace Brown;
It says Gilette took his suitcase and a tennis racket with him, so maybe he was going to take Grace somewhere far off, kill her, then run. That way ,it'd take a while to find her body and if they do, it'd take so long that the evidence would be erased. But, one thing led to another, she started getting suspicious and asking questions like where they weer going, why they were out so far, so she suddenly figured it out, and he knew she was going to put on a fight, so he just threw her out of the boat and started hitting her with the tennis racket. I saw somewhere that she was less the 100 lbs, so for him, that would have been pretty easy to do..
That makes scene! But why would be want to kill her...? I'm still confused about that part.
ReplyDeleteI think, if he did, we will eventually find out in the book through her letters. Actually, I think that if he tried to kill her, he would have first hit her over the head with the tennis racket from behind and then tossed her over the boat.
ReplyDeletehe did use the name carl graham in the register for the hotel and so he thought that they police would be looking but there was no carl graham anywhere in Albany and he got caught...
ReplyDeleteI think that it's interesting that you think she figured out he was going to kill her...I guess we'll find out if she found out he was going to kill her through the love letters. I think it's really sad that she fell in love with him (or infatuation) and that he didn't have mutual feelings towards her. From what people have posted/researched so far, it seems to me like he took advantage of her...he got her pregnant and everything and then he didn't want to deal with the consequences...

ReplyDeleteI think that he hit her on the head she freaked trying to defend herself and fell overboard then Chester safely hid his tennis racket and ran away. I wonder what was in the brief case does anyone know?

@ Andrea, he wanted to kill her because she was from a working family who did not have a whole lot of money and he wanted a wife who was really wealthy. Also, he had multiple wives/ girlfriends who also were pregnant and wanted to keep having affairs with other women...what a horrible horrible man that Chester Gillete...
ReplyDeleteI think what Chester did to Grace Brown was really sad because he was being extremely selfish by not thinking about her life and how it would be after he knocked her up. He also didn't deal with the consequences of his actions very well...there are many ways chester could have used the suitcase and tennis racket to drown Grace Brown.
