SPOILER

I just love how Ms. Wilcox is standing there in the middle of the room, just standing and smoking

  1. I know, but would you consider her as a "non-stereotypical female role model" ?

  2. I think I would consider her as a "non-stereotypical female role model" because she's confident and assertive and independent. However, i that depends on how you phrase it. I think that role models aren't stereotypical because people like to try to stand out and be different, therefore, their role model would probably be an example of this. I think that a stereotypical female role model would be someone who is strong and self-assured (in present day). But I agree with the fact that she is not a stereotypical female character, and that she is a role model.

  3. I think that Ms. Wilcox is exactly what Mattie needs in her life (not the smoking park but her being a strong woman). Although no one else may see this strong woman as a good influence on Mattie, it is an example to Mattie that a woman can be whoever she sets herself up to be because she wrote those poems about women being independent and powerful. Mattie should be very inspired by her teacher and I think she wants to be able to be as self-determined.

  4. I would consider her a "non stereotypical female model" because lots of women didn't smoke. Smoking was a think that men did. Its nice for Mattie to see someone she admires doing something non stereotypical, because she can see that not all women have to be like her aunt josie to e someone in the world. I also think that Ms. Wilcox is setting a bad example for Mattie, cause smoking isn't the best thing in the world....

  5. I agree that smoking is bad (although they probably didn't know it back then). I also think that Miss Wilcox is a good role model for Mattie because she speaks her mind out by writing and using her expertise with words to do so.

  6. Definently, and Mattie really needs her as the foundation in her life. I see Miss Wilcox as the rock in Mattie's life.
